I just tried my ROM 01 GS with floppy built from the image. It really wasn't happy (screen full of 2's). I retried launching JAVA.SYSTEM under GS/OS and everything worked fine. Maybe ProDOS 1.9 doesn't like what I do to the second LC memory bank on a GS. Maybe booting ProDOS 2.03 would also work, but I didn't try that.

I seem to recall that if you get a screen full of 2's you go into the IIGS Classic Desk Accessories and try Alternate Display.

I'm doing this from very old memory and haven't ever experienced it, so your experience may vary from my memory.

That's kind of what I remember too. The only problem is it wasn't trying to set any funny video modes (Alternate Display is used for second page of lores graphics as far as I know). I do use part of the Language Card that is reserved for the Quit code, so I'm not sure if that is an issue. This is part of the release process, to see what works and what doesn't.
