I guess I goofed. It looks like what I opened was the Prosel 16 docs.
I just tried my own suggestion with the actual Prosel 8 docs and had
the exact same trouble you did John. I wonder why one file would be
easily opened and readable, while the other is a complete mess?

Makes no sense to me,

P.S. to actually get the Prosel 8 docs I had to download the shk, in a
zipped format, from here: http://apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/Utils/ then
unzip it with Stuffit, then use ADFS to open the disk image of the GS
hard drive I use and import the shk into that. Then startup Sweet 16,
use Shrintit GS to open the shk file and extract it to a folder on the
hard drive image. Then quit Sweet 16 use ADFS to open the hard drive
image again and export the Prose.8.doc file from the HD image to my
Mac so that I could try both TextEdit and Word to open the file. ;-)
