Ah, I didn't realise you could EXEC a text file with a program loaded. Good to know for future reference.

EXEC is just like typing...   ;-)

Back in the bad old days, some people used their favorite text
editor to edit BASIC programs, EXECing them in each time after
making a change.  It was also a way to keep comments in a program
without having them take space in memory...just don't assign line
numbers to the REMs you don't want in RAM.
