I'm now trying to set up a minimal three-machine IIgs nadanet (my
"working" rom 3 as a part-time master, the other two dedicated as a

now, My working plan is to try disk booting via the smart ports. Will
this work? If I can make this system functional, I'd like to add a
minimum of two more slaves. I'd appreciate advice from anyone who's
been down this road.
That will work fine, assuming that you mean booting from disk drives
attached to the SmartPorts.
Exactly. I've got an extra drive for each dedicated machine (one
complete machine, one bare motherboard). I wound up ordering the
connectors from the Bill Garber, and when things are set up I can
answer most of the other questions that come to mind myself when the
thing is up and running.
This whole thing really started off just because I wanted direct
access to the serial ports on a remote GS. Since I've printed out and
bound the entire contents of your Nadanet site (and related posts) and
began serious study of Applesoft, a whole host of other vague
possibilities come to mind. Back in the Carly days I worked for DTI/
MWAS (aka 'HP East') on such HP projects as LAVA, TYBORG and the ill-
fated CYBORG, and if you are at all familiar with these, you'll
understand with most of my notions relate to motion control. I don't
like airing my ignorance in public, but consider: two slaves connected
to two servos, each running a different predetermined pattern of
rotations, and both started and stopped by the master. Attach
eccentric cams to the shafts... Now, if such a system is possible at
all, I would have a lot to learn to get it set up and operating, but
you can see the potential. I'm kind of working in the dark at this
point, but I don't see any show stoppers so far.
