Exactly! I've had to replace a few of those. When I do so I always add a Box Header so the SCSI Cable can be removed/replaced at will. Stupid that they soldered it to the board.

But if you think about it, a SCSI card is most likely to stay put and
have its connector firmly attached to the backplate.

Of the thousands manufactured, if only a few ever had cables damaged,
then it would have been silly to add another connector (and its issues)
to cover very few actual replacements.

This is a very similar argument to the one for soldering ICs to the
board instead of socketing.

Everything in engineering is a tradeoff...
