All,
This is to be passed on to the greater knowledge base, so someone else
who just got their CFFA card doesn't have to spend as many hours as I
did setting up Dos.Master.
If you don't know, Dos.Master is a program that allows you to create DOS
3.3 partitions within Prodos partitions. There is limited
documentation, and it's not a widely discussed topic, so initial setup
can be tricky.
Dos.Master docs are here:
http://www.apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/System/DosMaster_docs.txt
In addition to the docs, there were a few things that weren't
immediately clear to me:
1. If you get I/O error when you try to run -dos.3.3, it's because you
don't have the DOS partition installed. Run dos.install.
2. Don't put the Dos.Master install files on the target drive. The docs
mention that dos.install should be run in the same directory as dos.3.3,
but this doesn't mean on the destination drive.
3. The target drive has to be EMPTY. If you get free space errors,
reformat the drive. I couldn't get any floppies to work, but had C2P on
the first partition. I know ADTPro has a format command as well, but I
am not sure if it works.
When you're done, Eureka! Dos Partition in a Prodos partition on a CF
card. Pretty Freakin' Geeky (and cool).
Now on to installing "The Cat's Meow IV", so I can SIT tone those
nagging Robo-Dialers. BTW, anyone know how to rig an apple-cat to grab
Caller-ID? I hear the 212 card is perfect for this.
