Among today's solutions, I've covered a variety of them in great
detail in several posts here in the past:
- IIgs -> SCART LCDTV (simplest, very good results, best for non-USA
although
USA people can use the Samsung 910MP).
- IIgs -> Highway 100 VGA (the best results circa 2006, present
results TBD).
MdntTrain was kind enough to A-B my Highway 100 against his. To recap some recent history, he was getting good results by connecting his IIgs through one of Roger Johnstone's IIgs-to-SCART cables. Mine, unfortunately, exhibited horrible vertical banding and was essentially unusable. What js discovered was that it was only the combination of my converter with my cable that looked bad. My box worked quite well with his cable and, most annoyingly, _his_ box worked well with my cable!
I suspect there are two factors at work: (a) My cable is miswired, perhaps with a ground shield floating or tied to the wrong pin and (b) the older converter presents ground on a pin where the new one is n/c. It's got to be something simple and obvious, but I admit to the fact that a miswired cable never occurred to me.
More when I get the unit back and nail this down. I also would like to publicly thank MdntTrain/js for his efforts and assistance in diagnosis and for making the original recommendation on the unit. I have confidence that things will ultimately work out.
