This is the thrid try now... I seem to be to stupid to use a BBS

I'm add some pics of 80-col text mode.

The reason for not using PLDs is simple: I don't have a programmer nor
programmings skills and I love to design circuitry the old way which 
actually seems more interesting to me. And I've seen a lot of 
programmable cirtuits lock, so I've got some prejudices against them.

Anyway, If we use the Apple ][, arent we nostalgic? So why not use 74xx
chips in a place where they belong - in an old "obsolete" computer.
I'd think different if this would be to be sold in large quantities for
"modern" computers.

And a big part is not well suited for programmable logic: there often are
many lines and little logic, e.g. the 16-bit adress decode for the HIRES/
LORES switch. And the clock generation and color output is halfway analog
so that a PLD wouldn't fit here without redesign.
The scanning counter, however, could be replaced by a PLD saving 6 chips.
