I used an oscilloscope and a Dysan Alignment Disk. Can't recall the
software to step the head, but that's the way you get 100% accuracy.
Did the same with 3.5 drives, single sided, double sided and the HD
drives. Did lots of alignments and head replacements. And adjusting
the top head on double sided drives was always a fun task.
When I started at the shop, they had me aligning 8" Persci drives.
For an 8" floppy drive, they were wicked fast. Going from Track 0 to
Track 72 (I think...) took less than 100ms. Had a big voice coil and
man, that head flew...
