Re: Help needed: New GS disks
This is the follow up of previous article. I now get a few more disks
to work, including some of my old Applesoft programs and UniDOS (a DOS
3.3 clone). I wish to know what's the best for me to go forward:
What I have now:
- a ROM 3 GS with 4MB memory
- a 800K drive
I wish to have something that can show Ding Wen what's Apple IIGS is
all about (but most of my disks won't work), and also create an
environment for my son to program on.
For programming environment, now at least we have UniDOS, so he can at
least save his Applesoft program. Some questions:
- how about ProDOS? I don't have the original ProDOS disk, except for
one of my disk with ProDOS on it, but I don't know how to format, move
or copy files (I remember I need a ProDOS utility to do these). I
would think letting him save his programs in ProDOS will be better.
- how about GSoft BASIC (free edition)? Is it possible to stuff
everything on a 800K disk (I think it can)? If yes, then maybe this is
the best solution, but I don't know how to move GSoft BASIC disk from
Mac to Apple IIGS.
- how about System 6 + Complete Pascal 2? Able to stuff everything in?
If yes, can even include Finder?
My preference is of course to let him program in Pascal, if not at
least GSoft BASIC. If not, then at least Applesoft BASIC but save in
ProDOS environment. We only have an 800K drive, so all these needs to
be able to be done in 800K.
Any suggestions are welcome!
