Yes, that does work.

That won't work. The IIgs AppleTalk implementation depends on GS/OS
loading the support files. The built-in firmware is missing some major
components which are required for file server support.
The best you can achieve when booted directly into ProDOS-8 is AppleTalk
printer access, and that requires a somewhat uncommon version of the
ATINIT file (which Apple licenced to third parties).

That should also work, but I haven't tried it either.
