Ohhhhh, well that's interesting then...because it indicates that this
is something that happens over time and exposure.

If it had anything to do with physical wear, you would expect the
discoloration to be worse in the two spots where your thumbs hit the
spacebar, but it's not.

It must be some kind of oxidation caused by the spacebar being made of
a different plastic.  Or maybe the spacebar was processed differently
because it has no letter stamped on it.

In any case, ya, it is an unattractive color and makes those affected
computers less collectable.  I guess there is always the option of
repainting it.  Even if you can't match the color of the other keys,
anything is better than dirty yellow.  :)
