Not really. You only need to duplicate the functionality.
The contents of the black box is irrelevant. As demonstrated by
a number of FPGA clones including my own and the software emulators.
Suppose you put a laptop inside a box running a software emulator
that also emulates the i/o. How can you tell the difference?
