SimCity source code now available

Apparently, as a result of EA donating SimCity to the One Laptop Per
Child program, the game's source code is now freely available:

The README in the .tgz file linked to from the above page includes
this text:

I know Burger had been working on a port of this game at one time but
shelved it due to Maxis' exorbitant licensing fees. Does the above
development mean that this project can be re-examined, or perhaps
started from scratch?
