What you want is a Mac OS 9 program called ProTYPE. It will set the
correct creator/filetype on the Mac end of things based on the file name
extension. (I don't know if .sdk is supported, but you can rename it to
.shk and it'll work.)
Files transferred this way don't end up with resource forks.
I did this for many years without problems.
If you can't find ProTYPE, e-mail me and I'll see if I can track it
down. I should have it somewhere on a hard drive or CD.
