Crikey! The concept you've just described is so frightening in my
thought system, that it makes the Terminator look like a Tribble :-)

You know what I think? I think it'd be great fun if we could resurrect
Friedrich Nietzsche and Bertrand Russell, so they could perform for us
an equivalent of what wrestling fans would call a "Cage Match"

After several gripping minutes of listening to a Philologist attempt
to justify Perspectivism to a Mathematician, a great flash of
lightening and plumes of smoke fill the centre of the arena and a
caped crusader bearing the insignia TA (Transcendental Aestheticism)
appears! Immanuel Kant has joined the debate! In a flurry of
pervertedly verbose rhetoric he confounds Friedrich with the
accusation that he has attempted to (very cleverly one might add)
introduce the concept of analytic a posteriori knowledge, AND without
taking a breath, draws an inquisitive expression from Bertrand by
suggesting that he and Alfred reconsider their arrogant presumption
that there really is bugger all difference between "1+1" and "2" and
sends him in search of a name for his proposition in a deadly maneuver
which will become known as the "Vienna Circle".

But wait! Is that drumming? No! It's the footsteps of a gigantic
Scotsman! David Hume has entered the arena, red faced and steaming
from the ears. In a great whirlwind of Empirical Apoplexy he booms at
the contenders: "Sophistry! Unadulterated Sophistry!"

And just when you thought the suspense couldn't get any greater, the
program is interrupted for a short word from our sponsors, which
instead of the usual 30 second spots promoting things that are very
very bad for you, is simply a question: "If you could delete ONE word
from the English language, what would it be?"

(...)

Stay tuned for next weeks exciting match where Thomas Aquinas takes on
William "The Razor" of Ockham. And before all you clever little
rationalists go thinking you've already figured out who will win,
remember: Wrestling is rigged ;-)

(And shame on anyone who is considering telling me how off topic I've
got - It's Christmas! Where's your tolerance?)
