wildcard in a iie?

Howdy,

I recently acquired a box full of apple related kit, including 2
wildcards (originals, not wildcard plus or wildcard 2)

Should these work in a platinum iie? I know they won't be able to
capture more than the lower 48k but I was expecting to be able to at
least get to the wildcard menu. however with either card in place, the
system boots fine but when I press the button on the wildcard, the
system just hangs, even after I press RETURN or any other key.

I thought maybe the code in the wildcard ROM was calling into the
monitor or making some other assumption that the ROM it was running
under was an ][ or ][+, so as well as booting with the enhance iie
ROM, also I booted my system with the following ROM images (loaded in
to a ROM emulator plugged in where the CF ROM normally goes:

1) ][+ (Autostart) (taken from the lower half of the "Senior PROM"
images posted by Bill last month)

2) "Extended Debugging Monitor" ROM

3) "Senior PROM" (taken from the upper half of the "Senior PROM"
images posted by Bill last month)

In all cases the result was the same - system boots fine with the card
in place but when the NMI button is pushed, it hangs, and no keypress
does anything except for a ctrl-reset.

I was especially disappointed the 3rd option didn't let me get in to
the senior PROM NMI menu, as the ability to generate a debounced NMI
to senior PROM was my main motivation in getting a wildcard. The
senior PROM image does work fine in this setup, in that I can get in
to the menus, run the sector editor, disassemble things etc. The only
thing I can't do without the NMI is see what specific code is running
at any point in time.

So is there any reason why I can't get the wildcard running in a
platinum iie to either generate an NMI that gets in to the Wildcard
menu, or else generate an NMI that gets in to the Senior PROM menu?

Regards

Jonno
