I know this was an old thread, but I figured I'd offer up some
definative information I discovered during my Rev 0 Replica project,
just in case someone finds this thread in the archives.
Crystal - The crystal is indeed serial, but not all serial crystals are
the same. After quite a search, the only HC49 form-factor crystal that
I could find, that allows the circuit to consistantly generate an
accurate color burst is as follows:
Vishay/Dale part number XT9UNLANA14M31818 and can be purchased at Mouser
using Mouser number 73-XT49U1431-S
2n4258 replacement transistor - NTE159 is the correct NTE replacement
for the 2n4258, but it's not really that hard. Turns out that an
ordinary 2n3906 works fine in the circuit, even though the
characteristics aren't identical. Just to make you feel a little better
about this choice, a 1982 RCA SK series replacement manual that I happen
to have, recommends the SK3466/159 as the RCA SK replacement part for
both the 2n3906 and the 2n4258 parts.
