Re: Beta Release of Dora the Explorer Colouring for the IIgs

I got Tool035 from a random disk on the 'net to try on KEGS, then back
at home, the SynthLab disk had it, so that's what I used to transfer
to my real GS. Then I ran it through a real beta test... girls aged 7
and 5.
One bug I found: on initialization, the pen color is unset (set to
black). There's basically no recourse if you paint with it! One must
explicitly pick a color at the outset.
Thye Chean pointed this out as well. As I mentioned in my other post, I
switched between using the Toolbox SeedFill routine and my flood fill
routine. I had definitely set the initial colour for the Seedfill, but I
guess I forgot to set the colour for my flood fill routine. My bad.
Would be nice to turn sound on/off. My GS puts out sound way too loud
for some reason, even with volume all the way down; I plugged
headphones into the jack to keep from waking up some guests we have in
the house.
A second request for this was also made, so that's enough for me. I am
thinking of setting up a keyboard command to switch sound on or off.
Also, I might put in a config file if you wish to set the sound to be
off on startup.
Here's some selected comments from the girls:
5.5-year-old -
"How do you switch to another picture?"
<clicks on blue arrow with no help>
During a big fill:
Her: "The computer's not working..."
Me: "Why?"
Her: "It's leaving white spaces."
Me: "It goes back and fills them in."
She clicked through many of the pictures - and kept to the simpler
ones, favoring Isa and the map/backpack ones.
7.5-year-old -
Note: X made it go away with no confirmation
"How do I save Isa?"
"He should do a Sponge Bob one."
Used fill algorithm, timed with keyboard, to fill one side of border
Used fill slowness + keyboard to do broad stripes <I'll send you a
photo>
"Tell your friend his program rules."
Thank you for the excellent feedback, and tell your daughter (??)
"Thanks!". :-)
Thye Chean also found a lockup bug that occurs very infrequently for me,
but seems to be related to acceleration as it happened on both my
12.5Mhz ZipGsx IIgs and on Thye Chean's emulator. I have not seen the
problem on my daughters stock IIgs or on KEGS. Have you had this lockup
bug happen to you?
Thanks,
Mike
