music on apple //e

hi.
i was recently donated an apple //e, complete with monitor, two 5"1/4 
drives and a few floppies. since i'm interested in turning vintage 
computers into instruments, or what could be called "vintage DAWs", i 
was wondering if any of you tried to produce anything musical with this 
machine and how one would manage to do so. i know google, but a feedback 
directly from the most concerned people as well as interacting with 
human beings is not a negligible knowledge.
i will save you from stupid questions like 'how" and '"why", and ask 
directly what could be interesting (to me, at least):

is there any musical software for apple2 ?
if the computer itself cannot be used "as is" to make music, are there 
any other ways, tweaks, extension cards... that could do the job ?

the thing is i'm living in a 25 squaremeter flat, three-quarter of which 
are dedicated to my home-studio. this apple //e beast is consuming quite 
some valuable space and i'd reallllly like to turn it into something 
musically useful, as i kind of like this machine, its sexy looks and so.
