Yes, the Content-Length header tells the client how much data follows
the header.

That's what the Content-Type header is for.  There are lots of types
that a browser or its plug ins can display (ie. text/html) but if the
browser doesn't recognize the Content-Type it will usually display a
message asking the user what they want to do with that type of file.

It is amazing how quickly we can forget things.  I actually had to
double check to make sure I had the name of the headers I mentioned in
this message correct before posting it.  :-)
