Yes the SSC from an Apple //e will work in a GS. That's exactly how
I'm transferring disk images from my Mac Mini to my GS. I got the //e
first, about 15 months ago, and it came with the SSC. I got the cables
and adapters I need to hook it up to my Mac Mini so I could transfer
disk images to the //e. When I picked up the GS about 6 months ago I
simply pulled the SSC out of the //e and put it in slot 1 in the GS,
went into the Control Panel and set Slot 1 to My Card, and hooked it
up to the Mac exactly like I had the //e hooked. It works fine.

Eventually I'll probably get a serial cable for the GS port but as
long as this is working for I'm not going to mess with success.
