On reading it I realised that my IIgs has the hardware already set up! Its connected to my G3 Beige via LocalTalk, which in turn is connected to the LAN via good ol' TCP/IP etc. At present I use it as a simple method of getting files to the IIgs, but there is so much more potential. You have several options available. You could use hardware to provide the MacIP connectivity (IIRC, the protocol is named KIP or DDP-IP). The most common ones are the Gatorbox and the FastPath routers. I also recently acquired a Compatible System RISC Router that supposedly provides the same capability, but I have not tested it yet. You basically attach your LocalTalk cable to one of the ports and attach your LAN RJ-45 cable (you may need an adapter) to another port.
These routers have configuration programs that run from a Mac. The configuration programs are available around the net.
You could also use software that runs on a Mac to provide the MacIP connectivity. The most popular of these is IPNetRouter. Last time I checked, it cost about $35 for the most simple setup.
