There's also the matter of deciding whether a particular program is an
"application" or whether it's something else, e.g. a system tool.  Do
games count as applications?  Large games may have a separate program
to administer the game - is that tool an "application" of its own or
not?  All this is of course a matter of judgement.  And even if some
people took the trouble to obtain a precise count, different counters
would most likely get different counts.

Finally, the contents of Asimov changes from time to time, so the
precise count changes too.
