I'm sure you'll get lots of advice anyway but here's mine.
I'm assuming you're using MySQL for your site's database, and that you
are therefore using phpMyAdmin to backup the databse on the old host
and restore it on the new host.
If so, then be sure to enable Gzip compression when backing up the
database. That has, for example, reduced a 16MB database to 900k, just
for me last week when moving a site to a new host.
I usually follow the directions at:
http://fragments.turtlemeat.com/mysql-database-backup-restore-phpmyadmin.php
and it all works out fine.
But I'm sure your hosting company has already suggested something
similar.
