If the ROM 3 board is 'dead', or suspect, rob the battery holder off it, solder the battery holder to the ROM 01 board using the leads or the holes already in the board for it. ..you can also get one off a Mac SE and above, except for the original Mac II. I can't believe Apple soldered batteries ... ..then again, they put the battery inside the iPod and iPhone, still. ;-)
