LCDs on IIgs

It seems that a few people have attached their IIgs to LCDs and Plasma
screens with out anything special. Rather than trying to reinvent the
wheel I would like to know how they did it, and which LCDs and Plasma
work on the IIgs. The ones that sync down to work. Is it as simple as
attching the IIgs monitor cable to an VGA adapter with the switches on
it?
