Well, I have a boatload of Apple II keyboards with bad encoders so I finally
got around to making a replacement encoder board. It decodes the matrix data
and sends it out to the Apple II plus via the 16 pin cable. The bonus
feature I added was the ps/2 keyboard connector. I made it so you can run
both a ps/2 keyboard and the Apple IIplus keyboards at the same time! The
nice thing about this is 2 player games are much easier now. Also, the shift
key mod would be the same by soldering the wire to the same place. I didn't
make a solder point but it shouldn't be a problem to do the mod.
Here's a picture of the board on a keyboard:

It is designed for the II/IIplus keyboards that have the seperate encoder
boards. I made 20 of these and need about 5 for myself so I'll probably
offer the other 15 when I'm comfortable that the code is good. I think $29
will be the asking price without a cable. I didn't make many because this is
a specialized item.
Let me know if you want one and I'll make a list.
