Nope. I did not notice anything strange happening with slot/drive
numbers. Basically I listed the volumes prior to formatting and got <I/
O ERROR> 1600 for slot 5 drive 1; did the format on slot 5 drive 1;
and then relisted the volumes after formatting and got "BLANK" (the
default volume name) with 280 blocks for slot 5 drive 1.

As mentioned in posts below, mine is one of the "Apple FDHD External
(G7287)"  variety (has "Superdrive" written on the underside).
