Okay, cool, that makes sense. The only question is, how does one
update the data stored in each individual archive if it's incorrect or
incomplete? Obviously it makes updating a local copy simple, but
updating the archives to reflect it seems challenging

And raises the spectre of "refereeing" the updates, as well...
