It's not common, but it can happen. That's what happened to my poor ][+
clone. IIRC thin the +5v rail went loopy on it and +12v dissapeared at
random. Before it died, it seems to have blown quite a few caps (before I
owned it) on the mainboard. When it did die it seems to have at least taken
maybe 1/3 of the RAM, one ROM and an unknown quantity of other chips with
it.

I guess what I'm saying it it can't hurt to replace the caps. Mind you, it
may pay to check the voltages while operational and under normal load. If
they are where they should be and staying put, your PS probably has a fair
bit of time left in it.

If you open the PS and see any bloated caps it robably would be a good idea
to replace the lot.

Others may contradict me, and they may well be right. So don't take my words
as an absolute truth. I am indeed fallible :)
