which is what I did, but I only hacked the machine in which the //e
board was dead. And I had exhausted my skills at repairing it - which
I might add are fairly minimal. But I determined that whatever was
wrong with my //e board was not a dead chip, because I replaced
*every* single chip from a known good board and got the same results.
I therefore gave up, and then went ahead with the //e -> IIgs
conversion.
I still love my //e (yes I have another one), but I ended my
involvement with the Apple II when I retired my //e in 1992 and went
to the dark side and bought a 486. So I never got to play with the
IIgs much (my mate had one, but that doesn't count). Since returning
to the A2 world, I am enjoying exploring the possibilities of the
IIgs, and am quite frankly blown away at how "mature" seeming the
API's etc are within GS/OS. There are scary similarities present
between GS/OS and Windows programming even today. What this indicates
is anyone's guess..... ;-)
