The protoboard came from:

very last one on the page $1.95US (bargain).
The Altera CPLD's are also available from them.

Their Australian only site at www.futurlec.com.au only seems to have a
limited range compared to the international site, even though their
office is on the NSW central coast ??!?!?.

(No affiliation by the way)

I use a 50 way right angle male header at the edge of the board.
The 50way IDC to gold plated edge connector adapter you see in the pics
of the prototype is out of an old Macintosh
SE30 or MACII I think, but don't quote me on that :)
