Lucked into some old Apple II equipment. Had a couple of hardware
questions.
1) The Disk ][ drives simply whir and whir but do not read diskettes.
I got a copy of Copy II Plus and, starting up with an Apple 5.25" drive,
checked the speed of one of the Disk ][ drives, which was right in
specs. Tried formatting some disks in ProDOS, but the whirring goes on
and on. Then tried DOS 3.3 and it was seeming to work until I got an
I/O error with a statement about Track $11 and Sector $F. Got the same
message when trying to format a second diskette.
2) Apple IIc 9" green text monitor. The contrast knob on the side is
stuck. Any suggestions of how to unstick it?
3) One of the computers is an Apple //e, with the enhanced sticker on
the keyboard light. Yet when it boots up, the screen displays Apple ][
not IIe. There is an 80 column card in that unit, but not an extended
memory one. What's going on?
I have a lot of drives, controllers, a RamWorks II memory card, and IIes
in this cache, so if there's some combination of things to try, suggest
away!
