gosh, I posted a reply in the wrong thread.....
well, here are some answers to the above questions...

"ROM revision has no bearing... are you using a GS or a IIe?"
Apple 2gs


"What symptoms are you experiencing?"

Just not booting at all...nothing on the green indicator led.

"What brand/size is the CF card you are using?"
Sandisk 1gig,
PNY 128meg

I tried to see if it would recognize and format, but it won't even
recognize any card in the cf slot.
