No doubt, Jobs is a pro at sticking a sharp stick in the eye of the competition and then declaring victory, even if the competition responded with a nuke (think Windows vs Mac OS, circa 1986).
I've never personally bought an Apple product new, though I've owned many of them second hand. I like a lot of their stuff, especially the Apple II line. I've always thought that the Mac was never a technical match for the hype given to it until OS X. I think that Apple has been it's own worst enemy because of the absolute arrogance in their pricing structure up until the last few years. Today, Apple's products aren't their problem; they have better machines than ever. Today their problem for people like myself is the public eye-poking that Jobs insists on with commercials like the ones they are running for Mac vs PC. Until there's a change to Apple's public persona, I'll be happy to enjoy the many, many, many alternatives to their new products that serve me just as well. It's too bad, too. I love Unix and would consider putting a new Mac Pro on my desk if I didn't find Jobs to be such a weasel.
