Re: Cost Whiners
Hmm.. Lots of opinions here.. I'll state mine.
First.. simple economics. The value of ANY ITEM is whatever the
highest price somebody is willing to pay for it. If there is only one
person willing to pay $1,000 for a Vic-20, then that is the value of
the Vic-20 at that time.
For me.. I like to collect stuff but only what I personally need..
there are several reasons for that..
1) I don't have the money
2) There is NO POINT in trying to preserve as much hardware as you
can. I know that my children aren't going to ever feel the same way
about Commodore stuff as I do. At some point in time, the stuff is
going to get thrown out, even if it is after I die. At least most of
it. So why fill my house with it today? and of course..
3) Much better to use the space for something else.
Now, I wouldn't mind having an SX-64. That is about the only thing my
collection is missing. But I'm not generally willing to pay the price
to aquire one. If I found one for $50 or less, I might reconsider.
However, that is unlikely as there aren't many left in existence (only
a few thousand were made, right?) and their value keeps going up, not
down. I'd also like to have a flat 128 (I have a 128D, but not a flat
one) but I just keep holding out for one at a flee market or garage
sale or something.
