Hi,
I've been playing around with DOS Master a bit lately, and had the
unfortunate accident of optimising a ProDOS volume that contained a
DOS Master volume :-( Was backed up so all is well, but still, this
doesn't need to happen.
The Apple Pascal world has an equivalent of DOS Master known as the
Pascal Profile Manager, which thanks to the wizardry of Willi, now
works with all SmartPort devices, not just the ProFile. Where the two
differ, is that the Pascal version creates a file (of type PAS) with a
custom storage type which prevent normal disk utilities from treating
the space allocated to Pascal as something they can fiddle with, and
also provides a timely reminder to the user in disk catalogs that
there is indeed a Pascal volume present.
I was wondering if there was anyone out there familiar enough with the
'guts' of DOS Master to provide a bit of a rundown on its internals.
I'm considering implementing this mod, partly for aesthetics and
safety, and partly because it feels like the right thing to do.
Matt
