I'm going to post a second message in reply to yours with my list of
Apple IIgs Internet Applications that you might want to browse. Some of
it is out of date and I'm in the middle of updating the list and putting
all the information into an XML file and writing a program that will
generate a formated text file or HTML file from. That way I'll be able
to update it easier and I can generate new versions of the list easier.

I was going to just add it to this post but A2Central.com won't let me
post messages longer than 200 lines.

The only "TERM" program that will work with the Uthernet card is
Spectrum via Marinetti. There is a Telnet program included with
Marinetti as well as TelnetNDA, Marlene and Telnetti but those are all
telnet clients and not general terminal programs.

Yes there are some people still working on internet software. Marinetti
itself is still being worked on and Ewen Wannop fairly recently upgraded
SAFE, an FTP client, from a Spectrum script to a stand alone
application.

I, myself, am still intent on writing some internet applications. I'm
going to finish my e-mail program before KFest this year if it kills me.
:-)

There are a number of projects that I personally want to work on and I
know there are several others that people have been thinking about. If
you have any suggestions you just need to speak up and it might pique
someones interest and get the ball rolling.

The main function is connectivity. You have your IIgs connected to your
network so you can easily transfer files to and from your IIgs using
programs like Silver Platter, SAFE, gwftp and Spectrum. You can check
e-mail, surf the web in a limited way, take part in chats (either IRC or
telnet) and even keep your IIgs clock sync'd with a Network Time
Protocol server.

On my list of internet things to do is some multiplayer games but they
will probably be limited to puzzle, card or board type games.

Contiki is an internet enabled operating system for small
microprocessors. I'm not sure how useful it will become but it is kind
of neat.

I've never personally tried Contiki but I'd have to say that Marinetti
applications under GS/OS will be much better than Contiki because they
are 16 bit applications and can take advantage of all GS/OS has to offer
(up to 8 MB of RAM, access to DOS 3.3, ProDOS, Pascal, MS-DOS and HFS
disks, in some cases: faster processer speed, etc).

I'm pretty sure there is an Uthernet link layer already released that
lets you use an Uthernet card with Marinetti. In fact, if I remember
correctly, the Uthernet link layer has an advantage over the LANceGS
link layer in that the Uthernet link layer supports DHCP so you don't
need to assign your IIgs a static IP address.

I've never heard of having to change the year on the clock to get
Arachnid running. I've used it fine with no problems. Preview Release
3 I believe is the latest version so make sure you are using that. If
the problems persist, you might want to create a minimal boot
configuration for your IIgs that only includes what you need for running
internet applications and try again. The less you have running the less
likely something is going to trash memory on you.

Arachnid has one advantage over SIS (well, two if you count execution
speed :-) in that Arachnid will let you download files that are ftp:
links on a web page.

Hopefully I've given some helpful information. My own IIgs hasn't been
connected to the internet for some time and I need to remedy that
situation to make it easier for me to get back to work on my e-mail
program. I'm getting tired of fighting with moderm operating systems
and really want to get my IIgs to start pulling its weight again. :-)
