I've heard that before. But where... I'll give that one a little thought.

Where did you get it from and where are you? Ie same country?
Is the supply the right type for where you are?
Did theprevious owner use a stepup/down transformer to run it?
Is there any sign of water damage in the packaging?

Have you tried a different power lead? Probably not a great idea to try
powering it up until the possibilities have been eliminated.
Do you have any other power supplies that you can test with?
