Another possibility is to wire two transformers in series, for
example, the output of a 12v transformer to the output of a 24v
transformer. The later's input then becomes a 120v output. This "hack"
will do the trick, as long as you can find these among your spare
parts stock, and their power ratings are enough for the job.
But first I'd have a look at the IIgs power supply's PCB. It may
happen to have a voltage selector inside in the form of a wire/jumper.
Some SMPSs have the input rectifier configured as a voltage doubler,
and these can be very easily converted to 240v. If that is the case,
it will have two big (electrolitic) condensers after the rectifiers.
Although having 2 big condensers does not necessarily mean that it's
rectifying circuit is a voltage doubling one.
I had the same problem with a IIc+, you can have a look at what I did
in my "a2things" web page (google search it). I don't recommend doing
what I did, though. It works, but the load of a IIgs is too much
(higher) than that of a IIc+, and, I have discovered that after all,
*it was no necessary at all* in that case, as all that was necessary
was to replace the input side capacitor for a 400v one. Just for
safety, though, I have left two of the zeners connected in series.
