I used my //c with only it's built drive for a long while. As soon as I could afford and found a cheap 5.25 we bought it. Things were great for awhile but the drive developed an error and would randomly write to non-write-protected disks. It was still useful for reading.
I concur, two floppies are great. I would also suggest the CFFA or equivalent.
