That's my understanding too, but I have never needed to bother, since
my superdrive card has always had a superdrive attached.

I would recommend anyone who has one find a 1.44mb mechanism from a
Mac and swap it into their Apple 3.5" drive - that's what I did
instead of trying to souce a real superdrive, which are rather scarce.
