This might make sense if the disc is marginal, because there's an extra
layer of ECC on CD-ROMs. On a home stereo this usually manifests as discs
that play just fine but get "lost" when you manually change tracks.
Are you using a recordable CD? The drive will also have trouble with
packet-written CD-ROMs, because it can't handle the gaps between packets
(older PC drives had this problem). CD-RW is unlikely to work either.
If you're using recordables, use quality CD-R media recorded in disc-at-once
recording mode.
