I run Applesoft with native console control (ncurses/xcurses) but it still relies on a 6502 core...


I agree, but you have to try when x86 core rules. Translate 6502 code to x86 code. You can still use monitor prompt to enter x86 codes and assemble x86 instructions into screen.

The fact that these are ROM routines means that you don't have to worry
(too much--look out for GETCHR) about code modification, but this M/L
code is pretty tricky, with branches into the middle of instructions!
The analysis phase is the hard part...
