I think the answer to your question, even if rhetorical, is the same 
answer to a question someone could pose to you and me about our Apple II
use: Why bother using an Apple II when you could be a brand new Core 2 
Dou with better...  well you get the idea.

I do recall Vince saying that alot of people enjoy assembling a kit and 
having a vintage computer when they are done.
