Multitech developed a CCC (Chinese Character Generator) card for their
IIe clone (the MPF-III).
It occupied slot 4, had an onboard Z80 CPU and was divided into two
portions - the Apple II side with 2x 2764 and 1x 23128 and a pair of
back to back 74LS374 octal latches connecting it to the Z80 side with
another 2x 23256, 1x 2732 and 1x 6116. It must have used the HGR screen
to display the Chinese characters.
I also have a Hitachi Peach (MB-6890) which has ASCII, Katakana and
Hiragana charsets (to do the latter it has to use an interlaced display
to double the vertical resolution).
