Can't claim credit for the idea - a Google search will reveal several
designs, ranging from simple ones that use the mains freqency to cycle
the tube, to more advanced ones with variable spin rate controls.

Definitely! I'm also somewhat enamoured of the idea of an alarm clock
that employs a nixie tube display. I already have a bedside lamp who's
lampshade is surplus PCB's - they'd look good together :-)
