Drop Macintosh hardware, maybe. One of the things on the rumor mill is
that Apple is poised to strike at the heart of the PC community with a
general PC version of OS X. If that happens, consumers won't need to
buy an expensive mac to use OS X. Apple is talking to a lot of pc
manufacturers behind the scenes, according to rumor. This might be
either a resurgence of the mac clone days, only using less proprietary
PC hardware (hence, cheap mac clones again), or just a full-blown
attack to go after the windows market -- which seems very likely
considering the architectural shift to a PC-like platform.
Either way, it will be interesting. ;-) All microsoft has to do is
fall flat on their face with Vista (which they seem to be doing a very
good job at) and Apple has an edge to strike.
