What model number are you referring to as a "white" drive? Most of the
drives these days have been that ravaged by discolouration it makes it
hard to know what the original colour was (unless you are lucky enough
to have an unopened boxed drive like yourself).

I have to say I always thought the platinum //e's and the non platinum
//e's were pretty much identical functionality-wise (apart from
different board layout and chipcount). I wonder why such an
incompatibility exists?
